Custom Kitchens Geelong

Geelong Cabinet Experts designs, builds and installs custom kitchens for homes and businesses across the region, backed by more than 20 years in the trade. Our team covers the full scope of kitchen cabinetry: base and overhead cabinets, pull-out pantry systems, island benches, and integrated appliance panels, all built to fit your space instead of adapted from a standard flat-pack range. We take on new-build kitchens and full renovations alike, and every job is manufactured in our own workshop and fitted by our own installers — not a subcontracted crew.

We build kitchens across Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula, the Surf Coast, Armstrong Creek, Lara, Highton, Newtown, Geelong West, Ocean Grove, Torquay and Grovedale. Geelong's population passed 282,809 in June 2023, up 2.2% on the year before, and Armstrong Creek is one of the fastest-growing suburbs in the country outside a capital city, adding over 1,000 residents in a single year. That growth means new-build kitchens going in on one side of town and heritage kitchen replacements in Newtown or Geelong West on the other — our workshop handles both. As members of ICM Geelong, the region's independent cabinet makers network, we back every kitchen with CNC-precision manufacturing and a 3D render you approve before we cut a single panel. Why choose Geelong Cabinet Experts for your kitchen renovation

  • ·One crew, start to finish — our own installers manage demolition, trade coordination and the final fit-out. There's no handoff to a subcontractor partway through, so nobody can blame "the other guy" if something runs late.
  • ·Itemised quotes, not lump sums — you get a written breakdown of cabinetry, benchtop, hardware and labour before work starts, so you know exactly what you're paying for and where you can trim cost.
  • ·Honest contingency advice — we tell you upfront to budget 15–20% extra for older-home surprises like asbestos sheeting or non-standard plumbing, instead of letting you find out mid-job like most quotes don't mention.
  • ·20+ years renovating Geelong kitchens, residential and commercial, with hands-on experience in the heritage housing stock of Newtown and Geelong West as well as newer builds in Armstrong Creek and Lara.
  • ·ICM Geelong member — part of the region's independent cabinet maker network, with coastal-grade materials as standard for humidity and salt air.

Custom Kitchen Cabinetry: What We Build

A custom kitchen is really a set of decisions, not one product. Here's how we help you make each one.

Base and Overhead Cabinets

Base cabinets carry most of the weight in your kitchen — benchtops, sinks, ovens — so getting the depth right matters more than people expect. A standard base cabinet runs 600mm deep, but we'll go shallower, around 450-550mm, in a tight galley kitchen where every centimetre of floor space counts, or deeper, 650-700mm, if you want an integrated fridge drawer sitting flush with the rest of the cabinetry. Bench height follows the same logic: 870mm is standard, and we'll raise it to 920mm for a tall cook or someone who spends a lot of time at the bench. Overhead cabinets close the loop, and we set their height around who actually uses the kitchen, not a generic template.

Pantry Systems

A pull-out pantry suits a compact kitchen where floor space is tight but you still want everything visible at a glance. A walk-in pantry works better in larger renovations and new builds with room to spare. For an awkward corner, a carousel unit turns dead space into usable storage instead of wasting it. We'll talk through which option actually fits your layout, rather than defaulting to whichever is easiest to build.

Island Benches

An island bench often gets more daily use than any other surface in the kitchen, so the benchtop material matters as much as the size. Engineered stone handles heat and knocks better and suits a busy family kitchen; compact laminate costs less and still holds up fine for lighter use. We also plan clearance around the island first — at least 900-1000mm of walkway on each side — so it doesn't block the flow of the room.

Integrated Appliance Panels

Panel-ready fridges, dishwashers and freezers take a matching cabinetry door instead of a visible stainless front, giving a built-in, flush look — but they cost more and need appliances designed for it. If budget is the priority, a standard appliance finished in stainless or black next to custom cabinetry still looks sharp for less outlay. We'll give you a straight answer on which one suits your budget.

How We Build Your Kitchen

1. On-site measure and consult — we visit your home or site, talk through how you use the kitchen, and take exact measurements.

2. CAD drawings — your layout is turned into detailed technical drawings ready for review.

3. 3D visualisation and approval — you see a 3D render of your finished kitchen and sign off before anything is manufactured.

4. CNC manufacture — panels are cut in-house on CNC equipment for precise, repeatable joinery.

5. Installation by our own crew — the same business that built your kitchen fits it, start to finish.

6. Final inspection — we check every drawer, hinge and join before we call the job done.

Built for Geelong's Coastal Climate and Growth

Salt air breaks down standard materials faster than most people realise, especially near Ocean Grove, Torquay and the rest of the Bellarine. Standard particleboard swells with moisture over time, and plain steel hardware corrodes. We spec moisture-resistant particleboard or marine-grade ply, two-pack polyurethane over vinyl wrap, and stainless or zinc-alloy Blum and Hettich hinges and runners as our baseline for every kitchen, not as a paid upgrade.

The region is also building fast. Greater Geelong's Gross Regional Product hit $21.9 billion in 2024, up 152% since 2008, and building approvals across the region reached roughly $2 billion in the financial year to April 2025-26. Geelong covers about 1,250 square kilometres roughly 75km south-west of Melbourne, and growth corridors like Armstrong Creek are expected to reach around 65,000 residents and 22,000 jobs at maturity, backed by close to $1 billion in planned infrastructure. That kind of growth means demand for both brand-new kitchens and replacements in the area's older housing stock, and we're set up to handle both without cutting corners on materials.

Materials and Finishes

Hardware

We fit Blum and Hettich soft-close hinges and drawer runners as standard, both humidity-rated for coastal conditions. Soft-close hardware also holds up better under everyday family use, since it takes the slam out of every drawer and door.

Benchtops

Engineered stone is our most requested benchtop for its durability and heat resistance, and compact laminate is a solid lower-cost alternative that still performs well. We steer clients away from timber veneer benchtops in wet zones like the sink run, where moisture exposure shortens the lifespan.

Door Finishes

Two-pack polyurethane gives the cleanest, most durable painted finish and is what we recommend for most kitchens. HPL (high-pressure laminate) is a tougher, lower-maintenance option for busy or commercial kitchens. Vinyl wrap costs less upfront but doesn't hold up as well near the coast, so we generally reserve it for drier inland jobs.

What a Custom Kitchen Costs in Geelong

A full custom kitchen with two-pack polyurethane doors and an engineered stone benchtop typically runs $15,000 to $35,000, though the final figure always depends on scope. The main cost drivers are door and finish material, hardware specification, benchtop material, and the number of internal fittings such as pull-out drawers and organiser inserts. If you're watching the budget, switching from a two-pack painted finish to a laminate finish can cut cost by 15-25% with minimal loss of durability. We'll give you a firm, itemised number once we've seen your space in person.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a custom kitchen cost in Geelong?

Most full custom kitchens with polyurethane doors and an engineered stone benchtop land between $15,000 and $35,000. The exact number depends on your finish choices, hardware spec, and how many internal fittings you want, so we always confirm a firm price after an on-site measure.

What's the standard depth for kitchen cabinets, and when does it change?

600mm is the standard base cabinet depth in Australian kitchens. We'll narrow it to 450-550mm in a galley kitchen to protect walking space, or deepen it to 650-700mm if you want an integrated fridge drawer to sit flush with the cabinetry.

Do I need different materials for a kitchen near the coast?

Yes. Salt air is harder on standard particleboard and steel hardware, so for Bellarine and Surf Coast jobs we use moisture-resistant board or marine-grade ply, two-pack polyurethane instead of vinyl wrap, and stainless or zinc-alloy Blum and Hettich hardware as standard, not as an add-on.

How long does a custom kitchen take from design to install?

Once your design is signed off, manufacture and install typically take 4-10 weeks depending on the scope of the job. Because regional building activity is high right now, we recommend locking in your booking 3-4 months ahead of your ideal start date.

What's the difference between an independent kitchen maker and a big kitchen company?

Ask three things: is the workshop actually local, who installs the kitchen — their own crew or a subcontractor — and does the quote include all hardware and finishing. We manufacture in our own Geelong-area workshop and install with our own crew, with hardware included in every quote.

Can you build a kitchen for a heritage home with odd-shaped or non-standard walls?

Yes — this is common work for us in older Newtown and Geelong West homes. Because we manufacture to exact CAD measurements rather than adapting flat-pack sizes, we can build cabinetry to fit walls and corners that aren't square.
